Russ developed a keen interest in woodcarving
And started a whole new artistic career

It all started in the woods. Being an avid hunter and outdoorsman, Russ often would find himself sitting in the wild, waiting for a deer or turkey. To pass the time of day, he would pick up a treebranch and start carving it into something recognizable.

This is his latest bird carving
It took just about a whole year to carve and finish this three foot tall bald eagle.
  How is it done??
You start with a 36" x 18" x 18" block of balsa wood. Using knives, routers and cabinetmaker's fine tools, you draw an outline on the wooden block and carve in all directions.

Applying the finish
Once the basic bird is fully carved, it is painted, and varnish is applied to hold the paint.
